Abstract/Summary
This paper is set out to supplement the existing design aids for columns provided by the American Institute of Steel Construction. This thesis presents, among others, tables for allowable concentric loads that can be carried by a certain section given its effective length. These sections include, W, S, M, HP shaped sections, Channels, Angles, Structural Tees, and a number of combination sections that the group decided to include. The paper also includes tables for m and u for sections in the AISC manual that are used to calculate the effective axial load for sections loaded eccentrically.
