Abstract/Summary

The Philippines has encountered an increased number of international students choosing to study here to pursue primary, secondary, and higher education. A total of 30,731 individuals arrived in the Philippines for education purposes according to a statistical report done by the Bureau of Immigration Statistics (Philippines) (R. Gevero, personal communication, July 21, 2018) Hence, the researchers decided to conduct a study in order to determine if the perceptions of the international students of the Philippines, and the Filipinos, together with their academic integration had any effect on the level of their social aceptance. The participants for this research were selected international students that have enrolled in DLSU since 2014 up until present. The researchers gathered data for the perceptions of the Philippines and Filipino by giving out surveys to the international students either during orientation seminar before the start of the current term, or through their email. To identify the academic integration level of the students, they were given a survey questionnaire of the revised version of the Institutional Integration Scale that was created by Pascarella & Teenzini in 1980. This study investigated for the social acceptance levels of the international students by distributing a revised version of the Social Inclusion Scale (Wilson & Secker, 2015). Results have shown that there is an insignificant relationship between the perception of the Philippines and Filipinos and academic integration on social acceptance.
