Abstract/Summary

The business Process Outsourcing (BPO) industry is a fast growing industry in the Philippines. Thus, it is relevant to examine if these firms are operating efficiently. In line with this, it is commonly believed that Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) are technically efficient. The researchers would like to assess if SMEs under the BPO sector would fall under this belief. This paper would like to study the technical efficiency of Support Services SMEs in Metro Manila listed under Business Process Outsourcing industry or BPO in the Philippines for the year 2008. In the model, the authors used the value of output as the dependent variables, the Property, Plant and Equipment (PPE) as the capital input and the number of employees as the labor input. The Data Envelopment Analysis is used in order to assess the technical efficiency of these firms.
