Abstract/Summary
Domestic wastewater in some parts of the Philippines is already being treated using oxidation ponds. Since this method costs less than other wastewater treatment methods. It is practical to pursue further studies for the development of this kind of treatment. A laboratory scale oxidation pond is designed and fabricated for this purpose. It is proven experimentally that this can be of help in the research for further development of actual oxidation ponds. It is evident from the results obtained that it is capable of reducing Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) & Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) concentrations. Experimental results also proves that the design is able to reduce as much as 76.62 percent for BOD concentration and 72.90 percent for COD concentration at a retention time of seven days. Furthermore, the design is able to simulate the actual behavior of an oxidation pond in terms of daily variation in pH and dissolved oxygen concentration.
