Abstract/Summary

The aim of this study was to identify how an adult obtain their second language through distinguishing their second language acquisition and learning process. One of the objectives is to also provide data on how the two occurrences takes place in an adult's second language acquisition. The study is presented through the perceived experiences of 20 Korean immigrants learning English as a second language. The data is interpreted through a qualitative thematic analysis. The findings suggested that second language acquisition among adults undergoes a distinct process that are heavily influenced by their acquisition and learning outcomes that are greatly determined by various factors such as their facilitating influences, encountered obstacles and utilized strategies.
