Abstract/Summary

Titan Rubber Manufacturing Company, Inc. has been able to make a name in the manufacturing of automotive weatherstrips of metal and nonmetal in the country throughout 20 years. Its mission is to be of service to the Filipino and other global markets by producing and supplying world-class and high-quality products.

The production system of the company is experiencing opportunity losses due to a total of 11.16% of unaccepted defects of weatherstrip with metal and 10.42% of unaccepted defects of weatherstrip without metal during 2007, which constitutes a total of Php 9,247.840.88 that year.

Using Cause-and-Effect and Pareto, the root causes that were proven to be contributing 80.30% to the reject costs are air check caused by inconsistent temperature, defective machine, and inconsistent pressure, improper handling of hot product, application of undesired amount of silicone on the mould, foreign matters and improper release techniques.

The solutions were proposed to address the significant causes of rejects include the creation of a warning alarm and lighting system, Preventive Maintenance Schedule for Machine and Backup Scheduling, Introduction of Standard Scooper and Applicator, refined reject recording system with incentive, and improvement of ergonomic and housekeeping conditions.

Using simple Cost-Benefit Analysis, the comparison between the total cost of implementation of proposed solution from the total expected annual savings resulted in a total net benefit of Php 4,610,407.25. The solutions are found to be feasible and ready to be implemented within a span of two months.
