Abstract/Summary

This research paper presents a qualitative method of studying the experiences of different women who have survived breast cancer. The researchers interviewed 10 participants with different backgrounds who have undergone mastectomy. Having breast cancer affects the different aspects of a woman's life. Therefore, this study seeks to discover the impact of breast cancer on a survivor's perception of womanhood. Using the Concensual Qualitative Research framework, the analysis yielded 5 domains for the different aspects: a) Emotional aspect, b) Spiritual aspect, c) Social aspect, d) Cogntive aspect, and e) Physical aspect, and 2 domains for womanhood: (a) the effect of mastectomy on their perception of beauty and (b) Establishment of a strong sense of womanhood prior to treatment.
