Abstract/Summary

The interrelation of the computer into management has been a major distinction in the modern organization, providing a new tool for improving operations and planning. Middle managers are not replaced when computers are introduced, but generally take on more important roles. There is a growing emphasis on the use of computers for decision-making support over and above mere routine processing of data. This is evidenced by a greater concern for information processing than sole handling of routine transactions. Maintenance Information Assistance System (MIAS) is developed in order to aid the maintenance management of Asia Brewery, Incorporated (ABI) in decision-making. MIAS is a decision support system in which inputs are not provided to the decision process but actually become a part of the process. Decision making is done at the managerial level because it is nonroutine and highly unstructured. At this level, analysis and simulation begin to take an increased importance. Thus, MIAS is made possible to answer the needs of the maintenance department.
