Abstract/Summary

The Filipino has been ushered in to the age of satellite and in to the age of high-tech television. Home Cable brings the world of satellite television programming right into Filipino homes, together with the immense learning horizons and exciting entertainment experiences that have benefited subscribers of cable television worldwide. This greatly expanded availability of programs, a wide array of programs that have enriched the minds and hearts of many other nations around the globe, puts the Filipino at par with the rest of the world. As a competitive company, Home Cable must perform at its best to be at top. In the course of studying the company's operations for Management Information System-One (MIS-ONE) and Systems Resource Management (SYSREMA), the proponents was able to bring to light problems of the company. A Management Committee (ManCom) composed of some Department Managers, Vice-Presidents (VPs), Company Consultants, Executive Vice President (EVP) /Chief Operating Officer (COO) and President/Chief Executive Officer (CEO) was formed and its primary concern is to monitor and handle operational and managerial conditions and problems. One predicament faced by the ManCom of the company is the inadequate means of knowing how the company is performing at any given point of time. ManCom meetings are held every other Tuesday, which is the only time when operational and managerial problems are brought to the attention of the EVP and the President. They rely on the reports generated by the Cableworks system, an in-house management information system used by Home Cable, and other departmental reports that are textual and numerical based. In view of this, an Executive Information System (EIS) is proposed. An EIS is a computer-based system specifically designed for top management's use that gathers and displays information regarding company performance. The proposed system will focus mainly in meeting the needs and functions of ManCom. It will extract all the necessary information from the Cableworks System and present these in reports and graphical forms for the ManCom whenever they need it.
