Abstract/Summary

Erwin Piedad Cabanag Adult Leukemia Ministries (EPCALM) is the only non-profit organization (NPO) in the Philippines that caters to Adult Leukemia patients. EPCALM's three main services - Spiritual, Medical, and Financial rely heavily on donations. However, the current communication materials used by EPCALM does not contain sufficient information to motivate, persuade, and attract potential donors. The researchers conducted Focus Group Discussions (FGDs), surveys, in-depth interviews, participant observation, and qualitative content analyses (QCA) on their website and PowerPoint. These showed that the current mediums EPCALM uses have been ineffective because they lacked the sufficient and necessary information expected by the target audience to encourage them to donate such: as the allocation of donations, donation process, and stories of previous patients. To solve the organizational communication problem, the researchers developed a donor recruitment package that includes (a) a revamp of EPCALM's website (b) a donation video (c) a brochure (d) a revised PowerPoint Presentation with a script (e) a communication manual to sustain and maintain the donor recruitment materials.
