Abstract/Summary

The internet has become a vital part of society over the years. Almost all information can be accessed immediately and easily. While the benefits of internet usage are quite clear, it is important to also note the consequences. When one uses the internet to the point wherein it causes negative implications in daily life, one is engaging in problematic internet use. PIU is a byproduct of boredom and when coupled with the feeling of loneliness, one is more susceptible to it. Through the use of these established tests. Boredom Proneness Scale, UCLA Loneliness Scale, Self-Regulation Questionnaire and problematic internet use Questionnaire - the researchers were able to determine that high levels of self-regulation lower one's possibility of engaging in PIU. Self-regulation can act as a mediator between boredom and problematic internet use, as well as loneliness and problematic internet use.
