Abstract/Summary
The study explores and describes students' achievement goal orientations: academic and social goals existent with developmental differences and socioeconomic status, specifically in middle childhood and adolescents students. Data was collected from 109 students through a structured interview. Students' goals were gathered qualitatively but the analyses of the results were done through a Chi-square. Results showed that adolescents and middle-childhood are mastery oriented. Another finding in the study is the top four most apparent social goals of Filipino students which are: social: social affiliation, social approval, social responsibility, and social status. Lastly, there was the emergence of social goals specific to a Filipino context, specifically: social referencing, utang na loob , social support, social competence, conflict avoidance, and teacher affiliation. It was concluded that the way students conceptualize their achievement goal orientations is affected by their socioeconomic status and developmental differences.
