Abstract/Summary

The Highly Maneuverable Forklift Automated Guided Vehicle (FAGV) is a materials handling and driverless mobile system following a guide path. This mobile system is controlled by an on-board computer. The FAGV has very simple maneuvering procedures enabling it to adapt to various plant layouts. The FAGV can turn within the same area it occupies, maximizing the workspace. The attachment of a forklift as an added feature equips the mobile system in getting past the challenges of manufacturing industries. Like most existing AGVs, the FAGV increases work efficiency, reduce labor requirements, and make the operation of unmanned shifts possible. FAGV could be programmed depending on plant layouts and process requirements. It is capable of travelling along different kinds of path and intersections. The FAGV operates on two workstations. The FAGV relies on three phototransistors as sensors to follow the specified guide path. The FAGV is capable of one motion maneuvering, it can operate even on small work areas. This type of AGV enhances inventory management. Moreover, it can easily be modified to meet the specifications of a flexible manufacturing system.
