Abstract/Summary

Disaster-preparedness is one of the most pressing issues in the world today. In the Philippines alone, more than 274 natural calamities have affected the country in the past two decades (HLA, 2018) Humanitarian Leadership Academy (HLA) is a charity and nonprofit organization that offers a free online learning platform named Kaya that supports the needs of actors in the humanitarian sector. The problem that this paper focuses on is HLA's ineffective information dissemination of Kaya to its audience. Communication audit results conducted by the researchers revealed that receivers or potential Kaya adopters found that basic information (i.e. what the program is, how to register) and that the benefits of Kaya were not received by the target audience.

An event and a testimonial video were arranged in attempt to disseminate information about Kaya, based on the five perceived attributes of an innovation that influence adoption as posited by Sahin (2006). After the event, post-testing surveys were administered and focus group discussions were conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of the interventions. The evaluation results revealed that guests are positively influenced by the messages they received during the event that are based on the perceive attributes. This implies that the information disseminated about Kaya was received by the guests and significantly increased the likelihood of the participants to adopt Kaya.
