Abstract/Summary

This study focuses on the development of elite athletes in team sports. Focus group discussion was used in acquiring the necessary data. From it, we were able to formulate four stages on how an elite athlete develops based from patterns that emerged from the responses. These stages are curiosity, goal setting, enhancement and elite stage. This paper shows the development, which have two main factors divided internally and externally with themes. For internal development, themes are curiosity, personal goals, nationalism and determination. For external development factors includes influence of environment and aspirations for others. The difficulties that these athletes face are divided into internal (age, time management and injuries) and external factors (economic status, critics and lack of experience). Finally, the strategies that elite athletes use to maximize their performance are divided into internal (knowledge of sport, coping, prayer, extra work-out and love for the sport) and external (team buildings, studying opponents, reviewing statistics and help from PSC personnel)
