Abstract/Summary
This research study aims to design a Telephone Remote Control System for actuating household facilities by using the telephone. With the advancement in telecommunications and with the advent of automation, the telephone must be developed into a modern device that is not used for voice and data communication only. The Telephone Remote Control System is designed to receive and use Dual Tone Multi-Frequency (DTMF) signal to control or actuate the household facilities. But before doing so, like an ordinary telephone it must first be hooked off to receive the incoming signal. The system constructed, has an off-hook mechanism that automatically hooks-off the system after specified rings. The system also has a security feature, in which a password is integrated to ensure that no tampering will be done. This password is then validated by the microcontroller and once valid the caller can enter the control code or codes to execute the command. Upon termination of a call, the status of the executed command remains. The system does not reset to the original status prior to the call. Therefore, other commands can be executed on any call without hesitation that the command will be interrupted. The household appliances, namely the lights, air conditioner, and water faucet were successfully controlled even by just using similar devices which have the same properties as the ones mentioned. Further enhancements can be done to allow for more devices to be controlled and feedbacks to be sent to the caller.
