Abstract/Summary

The EKGPA software is a system that recognizes electrocardiogram (EKG) patterns and generates its basic interpretation in terms of Rate, Rhythm, Axis, Hypertrophy and Infarction. Its three main functions are: IMAGE INPUT AND PROCESSING which accepts as input the EKG waveform with the aid of a handheld scanner and cleans images by smudge-removal PATIENT'S FILE HANDLER which allows the modification, addition, and deletion of patient's record in the file and INTERPRETATION which involves identification of pattern and characteristics of the fields to be computed and the application of the set of rules stored in the knowledge-base.

An important task of the INTERPRETATION is the comparison of the patient's stored cases: the current is compared with the most recent case, as is the present clinical practice.

A HELP option is provided to include a GLOSSARY containing medical terms related to EKG and a CONTENTS option with information and guide to how the user should execute the system.
