Abstract/Summary

This study aims to create a system for monitoring electrical consumption of home appliances through an Android application. Adapters that measure voltage and current data and send them to a gateway via a ZigBee network are constructed. This gateway sends and receives data to and from the web server database, which the Android App accesses to display the information to the user through texts and graphs. The app also has switches that can turn the adapter on or off. Additionally, the app has a report functionality that lets the user pick a specific date or month and see the average power consumption for that specific date or month. An overcurrent protection has been installed in the system, wherein a current value measured above the overcurrent rating switches off the relay. This study provides users with an easy to install and non-intrusive system to monitor and control the power consumption of home appliances using an Android app.
