Abstract/Summary

This study aimed to identify and describe the concepts of sipag and tiyaga by selected Filipino entrepreneurs. It also attempted to determine the perceived factors that bring about sipag and tiyaga in the work setting. The researchers employed a descriptive study using a self-made survey which was validated by DLSU professors. The questions were based on the ERG theory of Alderfer on whether the needs of the entrepreneur are existence (material), relatedness (social acceptance), and growth (self-fulfillment) needs. The survey respondents were 42 young entrepreneurs who have a business of their own, that has been operational for at least a year, and within the age range of 20-35 years old. From the survey collected, the researchers chose II entrepreneurs for interview, which allowed them to elaborate further on their responses to obtain more specific answers concerning their needs which bring about sipag and tiyaga. Furthermore, needs which are the most common in bringing out such work values were also determined. The results are shown in tables and graphs. From the survey, the highest percentage was obtained by the need for self-fulfillment or growth need. Second was existence, third one was relatedness needs. From the interview, 90.91 percent of the respondents answered that the definition of sipag is hardworking and tiyaga is patience. A total of 81.82 percent agreed that both sipag and tiyaga are inseparable, thus, they always go hand in hand. Growth needs also achieved the highest response from the subjects.
