Abstract/Summary

The flowchart updating and academic advising system of the College of Liberal Arts was chosen by the group as the topic of the thesis. The main thrust of the study deals with the processes performed in flowchart updating and academic advising. A series of personal interviews (i.e., with CLA Associate Dean, department chairpersons, and the Associate Dean's secretary), observation of the existing system, survey of the students' opinion of the CLA pre-enrollment processes, and critical analysis disclosed several problem areas. Disruption of the flowchart schedule, inaccuracy in updating the flowchart, and the lengthy time spent in flowchart updating and academic advising are among the problem areas uncovered in the study. The proposal to solve these problem areas include the computerization of the processes involved in flowchart updating and CAPEF filing, and to alter some steps in the academic advising. Recommendations on how to further improve on the problem areas are given along with the needed justifications, complete with data flow diagrams based on the present and proposed systems. Input-Process-Output (IPO) charts are used to further clarify the modifications suggested.
