Abstract/Summary

Summary of the Study The Plaza Hotel, a name aptly given for it is situated in the center of Olongapo's park, a few feet away from the City Hall and the Mayor's office. Accessible to anyone and everyone, including the controversial U.S. Naval Base, Plaza Hotel became a household word for the people in Olongapo. Erected in 1968 on the former site of the hardware store of the family, it initially received mocking statements and harsh judgements. It started its operation on March 9, 1969 and soon disproved the initial reaction of the people in Olongapo. Plaza Hotel gained much popularity with the local people and the Americans. This prompted the owner to establish the casino, a swimming pool, a pelota court and a billiard table were added in 1973. All these facilities coupled with good service and pleasant atmosphere earned Plaza a 4-star classification, the first to be given in the city of Olongapo. Government restrictions and certain conditions molded Plaza as to what it is at present. Gone now is the casino and supper club divided into function rooms. The swimming pool and pelota court are still existing but the beauty and gift shop are at present being replaced by the auditing and accounting departments. Such relocations were inevitable for the Hotel acquired a PDP 11/24 mini-computer to handle the various businesses of the owner and to make possible the operation of a computer school located on the third floor and will soon have an extension on the former patio on the fourth floor, due to the growing number of enrolments.

This mini-computer and Plaza Hotel's various services, particularly the billing system, will be the main concern of this thesis project.
