Abstract/Summary

Depressive symptoms are something that could be experienced by anyone. There are certain types of movement therapies around the world just like tai chi, yoga, and dance that are found to help alleviated these symptoms and enhance a person's overall well-being. The study aims to explore if Team Based Muay Thai has an impact on the overall well-being of a person which is connected with people experiencing depressive symptoms. The well-being of person is explained and described in the study as having three major components which are Cognition, Self-esteem, and Emotional Regulation. The participants that were selected were five Filipinos males and five Filipinos females, age ranging from 16-23 years of age and coming from one team in the Philippines Team Jaakphukao which solely focuses on teaching Muay Thai in a team based setting. This qualitative study showed that there have been significant positive changes in the overall well-being of the participants, namely improvement on their Cognition, Self-Esteem, and Emotional Regulation after joining a team based Muay Thai with Team Jaakphukao.
