Abstract/Summary
The ADVANCED COMMUNICATIONS TRAINING SYSTEM (ACTS) is an educational trainer specifically designed for digital communications. The ACTS is designed to be an interactive educational trainer which allows the student (user) to experience the practical aspect of the theory taught in digital communications. The ACTS also features a Graphical User Interface (GUI) which the user may use to view and manipulate data that are present in specific parts of the modularized circuit. The Advanced Communications Training System is essentially a Pulse Code Modulation (PCM) communications system. PCM is the system most commonly used in digital communications. The ACTS also features data conditioning and modulation capabilities. This system also includes fiber-optic data transmission and reception. Included with the Advanced Communications Training System is a series of experiments to guide the user or the student to a methodical approach to learning as well as a means for self assessment.
