Abstract/Summary

The general objective of the thesis is to design and develop a graphic information system application package to be called the Lay-Out Information Manager (LIM). The following facilities were designed in the course of designing the system: a simple drawing tool (with provisions for drawing and erasing points, lines, squares, rectangles, circles and arcs) for use in producing graphic lay-outs a text editor for facilitating the input of textual data into the database a mechanism for creating and maintaining links among the graphical and textual information and a mechanism for the retrieval and display of either graphical or textual data. In implementing and integrating the system, Turbo Pascal v.5.5 was used as the programming language. After the completion of the software, the group has identified the following possible areas for further work: The inclusion of a printing option, scanning capabilities, ability to access and modify AutoCAD files, ability to create three dimensional (3D) drawings, and further improvements in the drawing tool.
