Abstract/Summary
MODEN, which stands for MODem ENtertainment, is a car racing game which features data communication. Its aim is to demonstrate data communication in an application that is familiar to most people. It revolves around two different technologies: data communication and three-dimensional graphics. The objectives of the study were to come up with a game that would allow two users to play at the same time using two separate computers linked by either a null modem or by true modems. Aside from incorporating the concepts involved in data communication, the system also include the basic features of car racing game. These basic features include three difficulty levels, stopovers along the race course, road signs to indicate the type of road ahead, and a map showing the positions of the players. The game also features null and true modem communication modes and action echo for two player mode wherein actions performed in one computer are seen or reflected in the other computer.
