Abstract/Summary
Air conditioners tend to produce low frequency hums as some of its mechanical parts such as the compressor and fan wear out. At present this problem is dealt with by using passive devices such as sound deadening materials and absorbent paddings. However recently a newer technique has evolved and this is active noise cancellation. The process works on the phenomenon of destructive interference. The noise signal is fed into a microphone and is then analyzed and manipulated through computer software. The computer processes the signal and produces a counter phase signal which when combined with the input signal will heavily suppress the noise. The anti-noise system will make use of newer anti-noise techniques which is not yet popular here in the Philippines and there is no known efforts to undergo such a study. This industry has potential for growth and various benefits could be derived from such an endeavor.
