Abstract/Summary

Beyond the physical aspect of injuries are the debilitating mental discomforts that lurk within the athletes cognition. It is in this endeavor that the relationship between injuries and psychological factors such as mental toughness, self-efficacy, and coping has been explored by the researchers. A causal comparative design has been utilized, along with standardized tools: mental toughness questionnaire (MTQ), general self-efficacy scale (GSE), and athletic coping skills(ACSI), as a means to measure the aforementioned variables. The participants of study were national athletes with a total of 35 injured and 35 non-injured national athletes were carefully selected for the study through purposive and convenient sampling methods. These athletes have competed in the local and international games. Using t-test for independent sample, comparing the 2 groups, the findings show that injured athletes and non-injured athletes are significantly high in general self efficacy, mental toughness and coping skills. The implication of the findings of this research manifests palpable shift within an injured athletes' mindset that self efficacy can predict better coping and more chances of recovery.
