Abstract/Summary

The economic and geopolitical relationship of the United States and China is seen to be one of the world’s most important bilateral relationships. Many analysts have found the relationship of the two states to be quite interesting as the United States is the biggest developed country and China is the world’s biggest developing country. In this study, the Sino-American relationship is analyzed and compared with China’s inclusion to the World Trade Organization as the dividing time line of the study. In the analysis and comparison of the pre and post China accession to the WTO, factors that affect their relationship is determined and looked into defining them to be economic and political in nature. The changes and trends of the relationship are looked into, paying close attention to the influence of liberalization in trade and politics of the United States in China. China’s transformation from a communist to a liberal and democratic country is further explored, particularly looking into the actions that it has undertaken to fulfill its agreements with the WTO upon its accession. The WTO as an international governing body of trade among its member countries coincides with the principle of liberalization and democratization as it takes part in the relationship of the U.S. and China in the post inclusion of China.
