Abstract/Summary

The simple gasoline engine consists of: (1) a cylinder containing a moving piston, capable of being lubricated effectively (2) a combustion chamber in whose walls are valves for the admission and exhaustion of gas and the valve seats are so arranged that the joints will be gas-tight (3) a dependable means of ignition with sparking points inside the cylinder (4) a source of fuel supply which in the ordinary engine will convert liquid into vapor and, (5) a cylinder construction which will carry off surplus heat or allow of its being carried off.
