Abstract/Summary

Urban transport is a fundamental source of sustainability of a city. Proper division of maintaining this source, its scheme should be well executed and this is done by the agency of Metropolitan Manila Development Authority or MMDA.

The purpose of the Urban Transport Scheme, specifically the Organized Bus Route Project, is to lessen the congestion cause of city buses in EDSA.

The main objective of this study was to measure the impact of the OBR Scheme on bus service operating characteristics along EDSA at present. These are to identify the distinct influential indicators of the OBR Scheme on bus service operating characteristics, to assess the previous OBR scheme and analyze the present OBR scheme in terms of the identified influential indicators, to compare both schemes in terms of the identified influential indicators, and to recommend further studies of the current OBR scheme.

The characteristics of the speed of the city buses and the passengers were being analyzed. Using the data analysis and plugging all the traffic equations needed, the group was able to obtain the results.

After several runs along EDSA under different bus routes, the group was able to acquire the average travel and running speeds and time and the number of passenger per kilometer run. If these were increased compared to the results from the previous data, it shows that the Organized Bus Route scheme being implemented was effective and gave an impact in terms of an improved speed along EDSA and more passengers were being carried and dropped off by the bus. With the introduction of OBR scheme, over-populated buses were segregated in two lanes to prevent lane clogging, passenger travel time lessens, travel and running speeds improved and passenger-kilometer for the specific segment was observed.
