Abstract/Summary
This study is an exposition of the articled A Curious String of Nines by Hans Liebeck [7] which was published in The Mathematical Gazette, Volume 85, 2001. This paper deals with rational numbers where decimal expansions satisfy the Nines Property (NP) wherein the sum of the first and second half of the recurring digits give a string of nines.
The main result of the paper is the Theorem that gives a test for determining whether a rational number satisfies the poverty NP. Some consequences of this theorem are also discussed. A computer software is developed by the researchers that gives the decimal expansion's length and determines whether a rational number satisfies the poverty NP.
