Abstract/Summary
This thesis is an ideological critique of the novel, The Firewalkers (1992), by Erwin Castillo. This thesis used Catherine Belsey's concept of ideology in her work, Critical Practice (1990). Through presenting the struggles and hardships of the Filipinos in the novel, this novel fits in Lumbera's National Literary Tradition. At the same time, through these representations the study focuses on the dynamics of the Filipinos and the Americans and shows the colonial relations and history of the Philippines.
