Abstract/Summary
This study explores the female representation and images of housewives in the American society through the popular network television show, Desperate Housewives. The theory that the researcher utilized in creating this study is that of Roland Barthes’ ‘Myth Today’. This literary theory was utilized to investigate the myth or the image that the show attempts to depict for its viewers. The researcher gathered all possible Signifiers, which are the physical elements where the sign takes place. The writer then identified the Signified, which is the concept that the signifier represents. Ultimately, the myths were distinguished and made apparent.
