Abstract/Summary

This paper is a study of selected poems of D.M. Reyes from his first poetry collection, Promising Lights, through the poetic-semiotic framework appropriated by Michael Riffaterre in the Semiotics of Poetry. In light of this framework, the paper identifies the ungrammaticalities, poetic signs and matrices that reveal the poems' meta-empirical significations. The semiotic perspective demonstrates that the poems of D.M. Reyes persistently explore the duality of the human experience.
