Abstract/Summary

The proponents successfully developed a C-language program that is able to calculate the extinction coefficients, a ( r), of various types of clouds from the Mie LIDAR return signal using the solution developed by James D. Klett. The background noise level of every Mie Lidar return signal was also determined. Aside from this, the program is able to plot the data file and calculated extinction coefficients. Klett's inversion algorithm solution applies only to highly turbid atmospheres and the values of the extinction coefficients are highly dependent and sensitive on the choice of boundary value, am.
