Abstract/Summary
The Filipino sports motivation test was developed to measure the level of motivation of Filipino athletes. Participants of this study were competitive athletes with ages ranging from 15 years old to 27 years old. Purposive data gathering technique was used in selecting the respondents of the study. The test items were generated from the ginabayang talakayan session with six competitive athletes as participants. They were asked questions about motivation of athletes in engaging to sports. After subjecting the items for review, 27 made it to the final pool of items. A group of competitive athletes were asked to participate in the pre-try-out stage. The tests' pre-try-out stage was then subjected to Pearson's r to determine the stability of the items. In a cut-off score of .3, there were no discarded items after the item analysis. Another group of competitive athletes were asked to participate in the main try-out stage. A total of 575 competitive athletes participated in the administration of the FSMT. The validity of the test was established through factor analysis and contrasted group method. Based on the rotated factor matrix, the test formed two factors namely, intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. The null hypothesis in the contrasted group method was rejected, which means that athletes had a higher test scores on the FSMT as compared to non-athletes. The reliability on the other hand, was established through the test-retest and inter-item consistency. There was no significant difference between athletes' pre-test and post-test scores on the FSMT. The reliability coefficient alpha of the test was .8921. Standard scores were used in obtaining norms for the test.
