Abstract/Summary

This study focuses on the durability of limestone-based Compressed Earth blocks due to weathering and no durability due to repetitive loading. Proportions of admixtures (Flexseal Elastomer, Sahara Waterproofing, Fibrin 23, and Acrybond Polymer) were varied to come up with different mixes. There were eleven mixes proportioned, evaluated and tested. Their physical properties were observed and recorded.;"Based from the experiments conducted, most of the CEBs, had a decrease in weight. This shows that there was a loss in soil and cement in the specimens. Acrybond 1 had the least decrease in weight, this signifies that it is the best mixture to be used in terms of resistance in change in weight.

The CEBs also experienced an increase and decrease in volume which means that there is a swelling and shrinkage in the different specimens. Neighter swelling nor shrinkage is desirable. Acrybond2 mix had the least decrease in volume, which signifies it is the best admixture to use in terms of resistance in change in volume.

All eleven mixes have surpassed the compressive load required by the Philippine National Standard for typical non-load bearing Concrete Hollow Block (CHB).";"Cost analysis was also considered during the course of the study. This played a major factor in choosing the better mix design.
