Abstract/Summary
The study involved the identification of phytoplankton and water quality analysis. The study was conducted at the marine waters of Bgy. Pundaquit and San Miguel, San Antonio, Zambales in the months of November and December 1995 and January 1996. Three collections were made from four selected sampling stations. 12 species of phytoplankton were identified, these were: Gyrosigma balticum, Skeletonema costatum, Thalassiothrix delicatula, Thalassiosira subtilis, Coscinodiscus marginatus,C. lineatus, Ditylum brightwellii, Biddulphia mobiliensis, Chaetoceros decipiens, Peridinium quarnernse, Pyrophacus horologicum and Trichodesmium thiebauti. The physico-chemical parameters analyzed yielded the following ranges: Water pH 6.40-6.71, Temperature 29.50-30.66 centigrade, salinity 29.60-33.36 o/oo, Conductivity 4133-4800 umhos, Dissolved oxygen 7.90-8.67 mg/L, Total solids 0.49-0.79 X 10 3 mg/L, Dissolved solids 1.46-1.91 X 10 3 mg/L, Filterable solids 0.49-0.79 X 10 3 mg/L, Phosphate 0.016-0.0244 mg/L, Nitrate 0.0606-0.0705 mg/L. The ranges were compared with the standards set by the DENR for class SB marine water. All of the values for the physico-chemical parameters except total solids were still within the standards set by the DENR for class SB marine water (for recreational and fishing purposes).
