Abstract/Summary
A survey was conducted among residents of Barangay San Isidro in Cabuyao, Laguna in order to determine the frequencies of the ABO blood groups and determine the relationship between the ABO blood group system and some disorders. Among the disorders considered were allergies, epilepsy, diabetes mellitus, tuberculosis, arthritis, varicose veins, hypertension, heart disease, dyspepsia and keloid. Out of the 325 respondents, results showed that the prevalence of blood groups in the site are as follows: type A 22%, type B 25%, type AB 8% and type O 45 %. Using the chi-square test for goodness of fit, a value of X=3.67 < Xt= 7.81 was arrived. It showed that equilibrium was attained, since the test fitted sufficiently to the expected Hardy-Weinberg proportions. Of the ten disorders, diabetes mellitus was found significantly related to blood type A (F= 28.12 > 2.60, a = .05). Blood type O is significantly related to dyspepsia (F = 0.16 > 0.121, a = .05) using Analysis of Variance-One Way Classification.
