Abstract/Summary
The recovery of wax from filter pressmud, a by-product from sugar manufacture, using Soxhlet Extraction Apparatus was done. Extraction parameters were the type and volume of solvent, moisture content and weight of filter pressmud to be extracted, and the temperature of extraction. Attention ws given to the length of time in extracting filter pressmud and the amount of crude wax extracted from filter pressmud in terms of percentage. Properties such as melting point range, specific gravity, saponification value, acid value of crude cane wax were also determined and compared with that to Carnauba wax's.
