Abstract/Summary

Manufacturing engineering and management students should be competent by reason of education, training, experience in technology and management to determine the factors involved in the manufacture of commodities, and to direct the production process to achieve the most coordination of effort with due consideration to quantity, quality, and cost.With this vision in mind, the thesis paper embodied the application of design and manufacturing expertise in the creation of an appropriate machine for the novel cause of countryside development. One major step for productivity and industrialization was through the mechanization of the cracking method of pili nuts which will fulfill the essential needs of the user.The study was divided into three (3) parts: design of the machine, manufacture of the machine, and the summary.The first part discusses the evolution of the machine from basic concepts to its materialization in detailed drawings and dimensioning calculations. Four (4) major designs were evaluated in which the one that attained the highest rating was chosen as the finest design.The manufacturing portion studied and carried out the feasible production processes suitable to the machine's design. Economic manufacturing processes and procedures were discussed in this section wherein production cost of the machine was calculated. With a finalized design and manufactured parts, the pili nut cracking machine was assembled. Reliability and performance of the actual unit were evaluated under this section also.;"The summary part discussed all the possible benefits that the machine will pose with its introduction into the countryside. Recommendations for further enhancement of the machine were also tackled in the last heading.A lot of attention was given to the integration of the design and manufacturing aspects of the chosen field of engineering endeavor in the fabrication of a particular product. As a result, the machine, even though simple and a bit unconventional, can truly crack pili nuts greater than 80 percent without crushing the kernel faster, efficiently, at a fair cost, and a reliable asset for pili processors."
