Abstract/Summary

Macrobenthic algae were randomly collected in Sabang Beach, Puerto Galera, Mindoro Oriental between the months of January to March, 1994 in four week intervals. The identified species were as follows: Acanthophora spicifera, Bryopsis plumosa, Ceratodictyon sponggiosum, Chaetomorpha crassa, Colpomenia sinuosa, Enteromorpha intestinales, Grateloupia divaricata, Halimeda macrophysa, Hypnea cervicornis, H. nidulans, Liagora farinosa, Padina australis, Ulva lactuca, U. reticulata. Of the fourteen species identified, six were found to belong to division Chlorophyta, two to Phaephyta and six to Rhodophyta. Ecological factors such as water and air temperature (C) were found to range from 26.0 C to 30.8 C and 25.2 C to 28.9 C respectively pH form 6.6 to 7.1 and salinity (ppt) from 26 ppt to 32 ppt. Padina australis was the most abundant and Enteromorpha intestinales the most frequently distributed.
