Abstract/Summary
Actinomycetes were isolated from the landward and seaward portions of the mangrove forest at Matuod, Lian, Batangas. The actinomycete isolates were subjected to the shake flask fermentation method to screen for their antimicrobial activity on the four test organisms, namely: Trichophyton mentaqrophytes (mold), Candida, albicans (yeast), Staphylococcus aureus (gram-positive coccus) and Escherichia coli (gram-negative bacillus). No isolates fron the landward sampling area showed activity against any of the test organisms. However, isolates A1, B1 and O1 exhibited antimicrobial activity on Trichophyton mentaqrophytes, isolates C1 on Candida, albicans and isolate B2 on Staphylococcus aureus. Theses isolates were obtained from the seaward sampling area.
