Abstract/Summary

This paper focuses on the perceived effects of rehabilitation on the biophysical state, psychological state and interpersonal relationships of recovering alcoholics. In this study, biophysical state refers to the physical looks and condition of the body while psychological state deals attitude and perceptions about life and the self. On the other hand, interpersonal relationships refers to relationships with family and friends. This study has 29 subjects, 20 of which are males and the remaining 9 are females. These subjects are classified according to socio-economic status, either low, medium or high. The subjects came from three rehabilitation centers namely, NARCOM, DDB-EC TRC and New Beginnings Foundation, Inc. Results show that there was no difference in the responses of the subjects in the in-depth interviews that were conducted by the researchers. Some changes that have happened in the biophysical state were that the subjects became physically healthier and heavier after rehabilitation while in the psychological state, recovering alcoholics developed more confidence in themselves and that they view life in a positive way now. As for interpersonal relationships, the subjects said that relationships with both family and friends improved such that trust and acceptance were already present. From these results, the researchers infer that rehabilitation indeed has a big effect on alcoholics regardless of sex or socio-economic status.
