Abstract/Summary
A hundred and fifty-two Filipino-Chinese De La Salle University students belonging to the third generation were asked to choose their work values and classify them as Chinese-oriented or not. This was done to determine the kind of work values that the third generation had and whether they would still considered their chosen work values as Chinese-oriented. Purposive sampling was done and questionnaires disseminated in a survey. Findings of the study showed that the sense of responsibility , honesty , discipline , respect hard work , and patience were the highly prioritized work values. These were also the top six values that were both perceived and not perceived as being Chinese-oriented. Only loyalty was highly regarded as not a Chinese-oriented value rather than hard work . Factors for considering a value as Chinese-oriented would be on the influence of the parents and the Chinese as well. However, some would only pertain their ethnicity for considering their values as Chinese-oriented. There was the high regard of the self as having the ability to select values. Value formation factors would not differ for the groups who perceived values as Chinese-oriented or not. Parents and experiences were considered as having the highest influence in value formation. Parents' influence on the respondents was not duly considered as a contributory factor. All of them defined their work values in the same manner. Having or not having both parents as Chinese would not differ for all of them made the same kind of responses to all the questions. The perception of the self is the sole determinant for a value to be considered as Chinese-oriented or not Chinese-oriented.
