Abstract/Summary

The crude extract of S. Melaccense was subjected to rapid chromatography. Fractions 12A and 12B gave a yellow syrup with an orange spherical solid and yellow needle-like crystals respectively while fraction 17 produced yellow-green sugar-like crystals. The three fractions were labeled as AT1, AT2 and AT3. The purity of the three fractions were monitored by TLC and their melting points taken. Preliminary characterization by IR revealed the presence of a monosubstituted aromatic ring in AT1 and the presence of double bonds in AT2.
