Abstract/Summary

A graphic novel that aims to explore the narrative possibilities of the medium by deviating from the standard story-telling structure. The story is about a girl who discovers spoken word poetry and realizes her potential in creating her own. As the title Kalopsia suggests, she views each poem in a different, symbolic light a way of perception that turns mundane words into an experience.

For many years comics have attempted to achieve something called synesthesia which is the stimulation of all five senses (McCloud 123). To achieve this stimulation of the senses, the project attempted to substitute the voice quality and performance value of a spoken word poem with typography and symbolic illustrations.
