Abstract/Summary

This study explored whether academic stress and religiosity predict tendencies of suicide ideation amongst Korean adolescents. This study included 70 18 to 21 years old Korean students studying in Metro Manila. On the basis of the results of this research, it was concluded that academic stress predicts suicide ideation. This means that the more academic stress the students feel the more susceptible they are to have suicide ideation. Result of the regression analysis also shows that religiosity negatively predicts suicide ideation. This means that when the student has more religiosity the less likely they are to think about suicide. From the noted findings, it is suggested that future researchers should consider working on completed suicides as well as suicidal ideation and attempts for it would allow an evaluation of the differences between these types of suicidal behavior. Case study and longitudinal design is also suggested for it would allow future researchers to assess a possible causal or temporal relationship between the variables used in the present study and lastly, further studies could include multiple informants and multiple method strategy in approaching future investigation of suicide ideation. Multivariate research is suggested in order to control confounding variables.
