Abstract/Summary
While Philippine art has been thriving abroad, and found for itself an international market, locally it remains an exclusive endeavor, limited to privileged and wealthy social sectors. Moreover there remains the misconception that art merely serves decorative purposes. This series of seven feature articles shows otherwise, revealing other facets and aspects of art that show its relevance in Philippine history and society, from contributing in the fight for national freedom to aiding emotionally and psychologically wounded persons. It also reports on various efforts to counter the said misconception and promote visual art in the country.
