Abstract/Summary
My creative writing thesis is a chapter book for children ages eight and above. Chapter book is a short fiction for children similar to the novel but has a length restriction of 4,000 to 10,000 words. I initially intended to write a short story for children but as the story progressed I had to find a more appropriate form of childrens fiction.
The story is about a little boy pretending to be brave whole being terrified of the dark. His quest to find courage takes him face to face with the very thing he fears: the darkness. The other main character acts as a foil to the male child. This character is a little girl who is tying to find herself outside the dresses and dolls. Her quest entails her coming face to face with herself and how her actions are directly affecting the lives of others. There is a sense of moral judgment in that she has to be able to weigh her desires and the desires of others.
